3 Majot topics

The three major areas I would like to review are:
Theories on language acquisition. Study of language acquisition will assist in designing of a well planned project to implement on the process of teaching or learning.

Strategies to make learning or teaching involved for the students.

Strategies that help language retention and advancement.

Strategies that assist in application of learning skills.

Methodologies on teaching and learning foreign Languages: Analysis of present methodologies in place will assist in improving, alternating or designing of new lesson plans or curriculum

Resources on Arabic teaching (experts from books, articles and journals that explore existing teaching resources)

Learning styles : which explores different aspects of how students learn

Importance of Arabic in United States. Research on the importance is a deciding factor on fostering of Arabic as a foreign language.

Demographic of Arab culture and inheritance

Why is Arabic language gaining popularity?

Growth chart of Arabic language

Zee, if I'm reading this right, your 3 major areas are: Theories on language acquistion, Methodologies on teaching and learning foreign languages, and the importance of Arabic in the United States. Is that right?

If yes, I think I would combine two of those topics, probably the first two and use sub-headings for the topics. For a third topic heading, I think for an Instructional Technology thesis at least one of your topics might be related to technology and why using it as a support tool would be superior to more traditional methods. Maybe relate it to developing learning objects? Just a thought, remember I am often wrong but you asked my opinion! :D

Hi, Zainab. This is in reply to you question on my blog and I believe it relates, somewhat, to Darlene's comment.

Your question-->"I have scattered thoughts on developing online courses for Arabic Language or to post video tutorial on my project which is a website. It seems pretty time consuming.Any suggestion since you are working on a similar project."

Well, this is a big question. I believe in embracing technologies which students/users already use. That is what they are going to be most comfortable with. A podcast, for example, may be an effective means of delivering content and you can distribute it through iTunes. A system similar to youtube (http://youtube.com) would also be something that a lot of students may be used to using. Consider asking your studetns/users what technology they frequently use. Try to embrace what they already know, instead of creating an environment where they have to first learn how to use the tool they are going to be instructed with. Hope this helps a little. Bill

Hello Zee,

“...Methodologies on teaching and learning foreign Languages”.

You might consider looking into Language Developmental Differences. Herschensohn, (2005) discusses the process of language acquisition and how it differs between languages.

Also consider researching how each language has its own unified set of speech sounds. Here’s another lead for you: Tabassum (2004) cites Baker (1993), Berthold, Mangubhai, & Batorowicz (1997) who assert that languages become entwined by means of “code switching - in which the pronunciation, grammar and syntax, or spelling of the two languages are mixed intermittently--or through consecutive translation, in which text is translated word-for-word from one language to another” (p. 50).

Hope this helps,
###

Finally I submitted my IRB application and proposal. It was a great relief. Now I can focus on my protype and testing part.
